What can others learn from the origins of, thinking behind, and design of your research technique?: 

At Justinmind ,nearly all the process has been unexpected and a continuous ‘learn by doing’. We made ours the sentence ‘Fail early, fail fast, fail often’ by shipping as many versions as we can so we can get feedback as soon as possible. That combined with a prototyping driven software process with agile ‘flavour’ is what is working for us. A really important thing was to be chosen by Stanford as their favorite tool to teach UX. That has given us a lot of insightful feedback to improve our tool we couldn’t have got any other way.

What insights does your research technique have the capacity to generate that might have been harder or impossible to arrive at using existing techniques?: 

I always remember a sentence from one of our customers at Verizon: “so we had this highly interactive and realistic prototype that we put together in just a few days and we said to ourselves, ‘why don’t we show this prototype to the people who are selling our products in our stores?’ we did it and we received the most useful feedback we could ever get.” We give anyone the power of building hyper realistic prototypes in very short time so they can test their software with real users.

How broadly can the results generated by your research technique be applied, and what are the limits of their validity and applicability?: 

We thought we were focusing the tool to profiles with high UX skills, but it turns out we have users from any kind of profile. From entrepreneurs (veterinarians for instance) to UX departments on Fortune 500 companies. Even kids are using it at school. It’s quite funny to see how a parent ask for the students discounts for his/her child.

Please provide one or more concrete examples of how your research technique has positively affected the design and success of a product, service, or other experience.: 
How might your research technique serve as the inspiration or starting point for future innovations in research techniques?: 

The flexibility of our tool makes it possible to prototype nearly any kind of device besides web and mobile apps. For instance, Mercedes I+D department is using it to design their cars ‘computer on board’ system. We’ve seen also many developers for Google Glass using our tool to design their new apps.
